The main appointments of the Automated System «Electronic Library of the National Library of Belarus. Cataloging, organization of storage and provision of access to electronic documents» (EL NLB) are:

■

organization of a permanent storage system for the EL NLB fund, ensuring its accounting and monitoring of use;
■

providing local and remote access to electronic documents of the National Library of Belarus;
■

cataloging of electronic documents of various types: independent electronic publications, digital copies, components of digital copies.

EL NLB provides cataloging, storage and access to printed, graphic, audio and video documents.

The main subsystems of EL NLB:

The subsystem «Cataloging of electronic documents»

The main purpose of the subsystem is to maintain a catalog of electronic documents in accordance with the requirements of the international standard for metadata representation – Metadata Encoding and Transmission Standard (METS).

formation of structural and administrative metadata in METS format;
■

editing metadata using a user-friendly interface.

The subsystem «Access to digital copies of documents»

The subsystem provides:

■

downloading and storing digital copies of documents in the document storage system in various formats;
■

managing library users' access to digital copies of documents (open, limited, private access).

The subsystem «Interaction with users»

The subsystem provides:

■

secure viewing of materials without the ability to print and copy;
■

provision of open access documents entirely in the form of electronic files with the ability to print and copy;
■

ensuring unified user registration, authentication and work with a personal account; providing users with an electronic catalog of the National Library with the possibility of ordering documents for use in reading rooms.

The subsystem «Administration and reporting»

The subsystem is aimed at managing information security functions, protection against unauthorized copying of documents, interaction with external electronic libraries and search systems, audit of the Electronic Library.
The subsystem provides the formation of statistical reports on all aspects of the system's activities with the possibility of forming filters (search queries, the number of refusals, the number of accesses to the Electronic Library, etc.)

The admin panel provides a visualized presentation of the main indicators of the efficiency of the Electronic Library subsystems.
